Break the Stigma Solano is a community-driven initiative that eliminates mental health stigma through education, advocacy, and engagement in Solano County. Powered by Empower Solano a BrandGOV initiative and funded by Solano County Behavioral Health, our mission is to foster a supportive and understanding environment where everyone feels empowered to seek mental health support.
We focus on addressing stigma within four historically marginalized communities—Hispanic, Asian, Native American, and African American—by promoting culturally responsive approaches and amplifying the voices of those with lived experiences.

“As a Black woman, I have personally navigated the deep struggles of depression during pivotal moments in my life—after the sudden passing of my mother, Hazel Williams, in 2012, in the wake of George Floyd’s killing during the pandemic, and after the tragic loss of our eldest son, Isaiah Hall, four years ago. I have learned the power of openly discussing mental health, whether in the community or on the dais as a leader. Every time someone thanks me for sharing my story, I am reminded of how critical it is to create spaces where people feel safe seeking help.
Break the Stigma Solano is about dismantling barriers, fostering understanding, and ensuring that everyone—regardless of background—has access to the support they need. Through partnerships with cultural brokers, peer advocates, and the Solano County Board of Education, we are bringing culturally responsive mental health awareness and care directly to the communities that need it most.”
